TRAINER’S
PROFILE :
Capt.
T. Cheok, LL.M., Master Mariner, began
his sea career in 1974 enrolling in a pre-sea course and after serving a short
stint in The Singapore Navy, he later joined the merchant marine. He progressed through the
ranks quickly to be promoted as Captain after qualifying as a Master Mariner
Class 1 from The Australian Maritime College and was awarded his license by The
Australian Ministry of Transport.
He
then took command of large
vessels in one of the world's largest shipping company today. His
interest in shipping led him to pursue further studies abroad and
he graduated from University of Wales, U.K. with a Master of Laws
(Shipping) Degree.
As a
natural progression, he took up management positions ashore and
has held several key positions in various MNCs from Executive,
Operations Manager, Business Development Manager, General
Manager, Consultant and Directorships in various shipping
companies in Singapore and overseas.
In
the year 2000, he was commissioned by an MNC to research into the the Legal
Implications of the Bunker Custody Transfer point of the Bunkering
Code of Practice CP:60 of Singapore. The Singapore Maritime And
Port Authority (MPA) accepts the recommendations in that report later
that year and amended the CP:60 accordingly on 1st January 2001.
He
regularly conduct seminars and has delivered many talks in the
region, inter alia, for and on behalf of Singapore Trade
Development Board, SGS, Singapore National Shippers Council, ISM, etc.
Apart from these, he has also written and published a number of
shipping articles for various professional and maritime organizations.
He was
the immediate past Honorary Editor of the Journal, “The Shipman”
and the newsletter “ISM News” which he held for four years.
He is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute, U.K. and a Fellow of
The Institute of Shipping & Logistics Management. Capt. Cheok
is also a Corporate Member of several other Maritime and
Professional Institutions, including the Institute of Arbitrators.
