Star Kid Programme

The Star Kid programme is a once a week play group for children from 2 - 6 years old, who are waiting to attend the Early Intervention Programme (EIP)

The aim of such play groups (6 in a group) is to provide learning opportunities, stimulation and interaction for the children, with the focus on group play and activities. Having such play groups also create an avenue for the parents to form support groups and share their experiences with one another.

In a typical session

The 1½ hour sessions are carried out by teachers at the Autism Children's Centre. In a group of 6 children to 3 teachers, the children are exposed to the various types of toys and play skills, appropriate for their age groups. In addition there is a fortnightly consultation for the parent and child with a session teacher, to provide parents with teaching ideas for the home.
