Process
Capital
Is
the part of Intellectual Capital that covers the knowledge
generated and resident in our business processes, in our databases,
and in our documentation. The way we do things, the knowledge
that we have gained over the years, the mistakes we have made,
the documentation that we have created, all contribute to
our process knowledge.
Process
Knowledge Drivers
In
process re-engineering, we strive to change what we do to
improve our process performance. Process performance measures
are therefore ideal to use as indicators of new knowledge
being generated. Every time we make a breakthrough reduction
in Cycle Time for example, we rapidly learn and document new
techniques, adopt new technology, reduce non-value-adding
process steps and please our internal and external customers.
Productivity
as a driver has been in use for many years, but is seldom
recognised as a knowledge driver. Cycle Time is also
well known, although not always measured correctly. Process
Yield, is ideal for both driving new understanding of
wasteful practices and eliminating waste itself. On Time
Delivery (OTD) is both a customer pleaser as well as a
leading indicator of process performance to promise.
Process
Documentation is a leading generator of new process knowledge,
particularly if it is created in a visual form such as process
maps. Process maps are an ideal way to share process knowledge,
and to challenge what we do.
