They started to search high and low for friends who, like them in the past, were still suffering under the bondage of drugs, so that they might share the Gospel with them. In July 1983, this group of ex-addicts, as an expression of their gratitude for the salvation they had received, stepped out in faith and founded Breakthrough Missions in Changi. This was to be a home for those addicts who needed help in quitting the habit, in restoring their health and in rediscovering the true meaning of life. Breakthrough Missions has since moved five times. In September 1988, we moved to Labrador Park Road. We thank God that, just before we entered the new millennium, with His continuing guidance, Breakthrough Missions moved to its present premises at 24 Yew Siang Road. Ever since the founding of Breakthrough Missions, many residents have completed their Gospel-based rehabilitation programme here and moved on to face the tests and challenges of life "out there". They left this place with a new life in Jesus Christ, so that they may be good witnesses for the Lord Jesus. May all glory be to God!

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8:36, KJV) Many people who have seen addicts go in and out of drug rehabilitation centres and prisons again and again, are inclined to conclude, "These guys are hopeless! They are beyond redemption." Yet, many of those who have overcome the curse of drugs on their lives through their stay in Breakthrough Missions, are able to witness how the Lord has changed their lives. Those in the pictures below are but a few:

We thank God that, with our move to the new premises, our
capacity
has increased 70 residents and we now enjoy a better working environment with
more space for our various workshops. We have been able to further strengthen
our Handicrafts Department, which now has its own showroom, where cassettes,
CDs, Christian books and beautiful candles, etc., are sold. We have also brought in some antique furniture from overseas for sale. At the same time, we are providing repair and re-varnishing services for furniture. Other departments include: book- and bible-binding, embossing, framing, copper-tooling, silk-screening of T-shirts, car-grooming and polishing services, etc. Other off-premises services provided by us include: house and office removal services, gardening and grass-cutting, etc. God has brought to our midst a group of brothers with different talents and abilities to manifest the wonders of His salvation. The work-therapy programme instills in the residents values such as discipline, responsibility and cooperation, so as to prepare them for contributing to their families, the society and our nation, that they may become good witnesses for the Lord Jesus and that others may see the love and grace of our Lord through their acts.

| Our Thanksgiving - He has done great things for us | ||
|
Through all these years of ministry, we are thankful that the Lord has used Breakthrough Missions to help more than a thousand ex-addicts. Although there were some who easily gave up their attempt to quit drugs, there were also many others who finally overcame their addiction after numerous attempts and with the Lord's help. We have seen many brothers leaving behind their dark and painful past to march into the light, leading a healthy life, starting a family, and even returning to be of help to those who are still struggling to become drug-free. We know how we got ourselves into trouble in the past, and how God has saved us from the darkness of hopelessness and changed us with His love. Now we even have the privilege of serving this Almighty God, the God of glory. He has truly done great things for us! Our hearts are full of gratitude.
