Koh Samui

Koh Samui is an island off the mainland Thailand. The island has its own runway and flying to Koh samui from Singapore's Changi airport takes about 2hrs 20mins. Snacks and food would be served on board. The plane is not a big plane and the plane runs on props. When the plane touches down, it would be a completely different place compared to singapore. Theres a law stating that buildings that are built on the island cannot be taller than a coconut tree. When you are on Koh Samui, you do not need to worry about food and there are plenty of restraunts ar stalls serving good food. At night, most roads are bustling with people as there is a Pasa Malam(night market) going on every night.

The laws there are different from ours here. Motorcyclist and car drivers need not have to have a licence to drive a car or ride a bike there. Seat belts and helmets also need not be worn. I even had a go at driving a jeep ! The rentals of cars and motorbikes are readily available. You can even choose your gun (ranging from shot guns, pistols etc) and fire shots at the Koh Samui's shooting range !

Those people who are planning to make a trip there, take note of these points.

  • All taxis stop service around the island at 21.00hrs
  • stores and shops close at 19:00 in Nathon.
  • Make sure you reconfirm your flight at least 72 hrs before departure.
  • Beware of touts and guides selling inferior goods at high prices on the beach and in the town.
  • Drugs are illegal in Koh Samui and Thailand imposes stiff sentences for possession.
  • Do not leave your valuables ungarded on the beach or in the car.
  • The sea is rough during the monsoon season.
