The Mangrove Jack is sometimes called red beam. Chia Joh is its local name. They are sometimes confused with the red bass (Note:The Red Bass is a poisonous fish and once eaten, it can lead to death.) and the golden snapper. Their scientific name is Lutjanus argentimaculatus.

Mangrove jacks can be caught on lures, live baitfishes or live prawns.They can also be caught on fish or prawn meat.Using floats and small weights are the common methods of fishing for them.But weights are the prefrered choice.They are known to be dirty fighters who will swim to the snags when hooked.So if your hands are itching to fight these fish, go down to your nearest commercial pond as they stock up their ponds with a large percentage of them.
