Spanish Mackerel


Names
 
Their common names are spaniard, macko, walu, tenggiri batang.Their scientific name is Scomberomorus Commerson.


Description
 
The mackerel is an elongated fish,it has sharp teeth and its tail is forked.It has small fins behind the second dorsal fin.It is usually green or greeny blue and silver on the side.There are also vertical bars of grey or dark green on its side.


Size
 
The mackerel tends to group and school together with similar sized speciments.Their common weight is from 2-15kgs.This species have the growth potential of growing to sizes of 50-60kgs.


Habits
 
This fish is an active fish and is attracted toschools of baitfish like gar,kembongs,tambans or mullet.


Fishing Techniques
 
Trolling,live baiting,fishing with dead baits can be used.They take squid,prawns,and other fishes like tambans or kembong.They can also be taken by using artifical lures like spoons etc.

Qualities
 
The spanish mackerel is a delicious white fleshed fish.
