I've finally motivated myself to provide a portal page to the rest of my scattered websites on the WWW. I have been on the Internet since late 1995. I'm hooked. Addicted. I seriously doubt I can do without the web now; it's a convenient form of communication by virtually drawing everyone on this planet closer to each other. E-mails, web pages with unthinkable wealth of information, instant messengers... the list just goes on. People have asked me why I've not given up on the web. Why my interest in it has not waned. Why my involvement with the web has not been reduced to merely reading emails perfunctorily every morning. I guess I have a greater sense of adventure; and of course, a huge interest in computers, in general. One other strong reason is the endless wonderful hours I've spent chatting with faceless people online. I think over the past 5 years, I've come to know a lot of people on the web. People with different interests, people from all walks of life and having the most varied and colourful lifestyle. I have learnt a lot from my company of online friends; if I were to walk away from the web today (heavens forbid!), I know I'll be leaving armed with knowledge I'd probably would not have garnered if I'd not wandered into the vast lands of e-chats. Unfortunately, most people consider internet chats sensational, scandalous, and filthy - they are probably right. I have spent many hours fending off creeps. Despite these, I have found many pots of gold in the annoying heap of trash. One has to bear in mind that even in real life, not everyone one meets is a pleasant person. This brings me to another point. At the end of the day, I am just a a matrix of pixels. No matter how convincing and intimate your relationships with your online friends are, you are just a projection of electrons. There is no question on whether online relationships will replace real life encounters. They just simply can't. We are blessed with 5 senses; we will only be simulating sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. But then some of us just want to remain faceless, behind the protective wings of the internet. I hope you will have a good look around my websites. These pages were done over a span of 2-3 years, some of which are still being revamped and upgraded now and then. If you have something to say to me, or if you just want to criticise, please feel free to drop me a note. I'm waiting behind my screen. |
