General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) handphones are getting more affordable. Network operators SingTel and M1 are waiving GPRS registration charges. Now's as good a time as any to give the high-speed technology a try. If you are interested, we show you how to set up your phone for GPRS-enabled Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) access.

What you need:
bulletA GPRS-enabled phone such as the Ericsson T39, Siemens S45 or Motorola V.66
bulletSubscription to a SingTel or M1 GSM network
bulletSubscription to a GPRS value-added service

Getting started:
To set up your GPRS-capable phone for WAP, you have to modify your phone browser settings first. For handphone-specific instructions, you can visit SingTel or M1.

If you prefer to plunge right in, follow the table below and input the values required into your handset. Once you've configured your mobile, remember to activate GPRS if necessary. Next, launch your WAP browser and you're all set to surf!
