After reading our guide on how to set up a GPRS phone to access the mobile Internet, reader KK wrote in asking us how to hook up a GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) phone with a notebook or handheld to access the Internet as well.

Well, here it is. Before you start on any of this, remember to configure your phone for GPRS first, if you haven't already done so. Note also that StarHub's GRPS service is still under trial, and will launch commercially only towards the end of this year. As such, we will only focus on M1 and SingTel's GPRS network settings.

Requirements: A GPRS-enabled phone, plus any one of the following devices:

  1. Your notebook
  2. Your Pocket PC
  3. Your Palm
