INTRODUCTION

The 27th Conference of this ANNUAL EVENT will be held on 29 - 30 August 2002. It will continue the discussions from this very successful series of conferences which started 27 years ago.

The 27th Conference welcomes the support of the ASSOCIATION OF CONSULTING ENGINEERS, SINGAPORE as the seventh sponsoring Organisation of the Conference.

Conference 2002 Lecture will be delivered by:

DR. GAJANAN M. SABNIS, (to whom the 27th Conference is dedicated) receives his early education in India and achieved the doctorate degree from Cornell University, USA in 1967.

Professional Career: Consultant and Principal (former) of KC Engineering, P.C. (1983- 1999): Worked in design, inspection and construction management of bridges and highways; Visiting Research Scientist at National Institute for Science and Technology (NIST) in 1994 and summers of 1977, 1978 and 1979; Professor of Civil Engineering, Howard University, Washington, DC. (1974- present); Group Supervisor, Bechtel Corporation, Gaithersburg, Maryland, (1970-1974); Research Engineer, American Cement Corporation, Riverside, Ca., (1968-69); Consulting Engineer, Bombay, India (1961-64); designed multi-storey reinforced concrete apartment buildings.

Professional Achievements: Developed energy-efficient concrete house, which won ACI award. Member of numerous committees of ASCE, ACI, PCI and ASEE; Registered professional engineer in more than 10 states including New York and California; President of civic community and professional organizations; National Memberships include: ACI318-sub.C, Serviceability (1996-2000); ACI445, Shear and Torsion; ACI364, Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures, etc. He has published over 100 research reports, papers and presentations His most recent book is entitled, ³Concrete Repair and Maintenance²

Amongst the honours and awards he had received include:

  • Edmund Friedman Award, ASCE 1999. · Engineer of the Year, ASEI 1997. · Award for Innovative Use of Concrete by ACI/NCC 1997.
  • Award of Our World in Concrete & Structures, Singapore (1991).
  • Best Teacher Award by ASCE Howard University Student Chapter (1990, 1974).
  • Percy L. Julian Research Award, Sigma Xi (1987).
  • First Chapter Activities Award, ACI (1976).
  • James Berkeley Gold Medal and Award, University of Bombay (1961).

Pre OWICS Specialty Conference

As part of the 5th Singapore CONCRETE WEEK, a Pre-OWICS Specialty Conference

THE 3RD ASIA PACIFIC SPECIALTY CONFERENCE ON FIBRE REINFORCED MATERIALS will be held on 26-27 August 2001.

We invite to you to submit papers and participate in the conference. Email us for details.

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

The Conference is now receiving submissions from academicians, professors, researchers, professional engineers, architects and consultants from private and public sectors; builders and contractors, developers, suppliers, material scientists and technologists; industrialists and manufacturers and all those interested and involved in concrete.

The topics of the conference would include:

- Concrete design and analysis for buildings and structures
- Concrete mix design, quality control, production and manufacturing
- Concrete technology, ready-mix, self compacting, roller concrete
- Concrete prefabrication
- Concrete plant, equipment and machinery
- Concrete repairs and rehabilitation
- Concrete materials, composites
- Concrete construction and safety
- Concrete application in bridges, tall buildings, tunnels, underwater, underground SPECIAL SESSIONS on selected and special topics s

(texts received after the deadline may be accepted for inclusion, although they will miss the Awards review, evaluation and nomination session).

Please note that it is part of the requirements of submission of abstract that the author or one of the co-authors will attend the Conference and present the paper.

Papers accepted for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings will have to be registered, with a text-inclusion fee.

It is also an understanding that the Organisers hold the copyrights of the papers published in the Proceedings, which will carry an ISBN reference.

CONCRETE AWARDS

All accepted papers (except keynote papers) will automatically be reviewed and assessed for consideration in the Concrete Awards Scheme for its originality and level of excellence.

The awards include:

  • YOUNG CONCRETE RESEARCHER AWARD - The special award is dedicated to young concrete researchers below the age of 35 (as on 27 August 2002). a separate entry submission is required.
