China is believed to be the first country to produce cast cash. It  can be traced back to Shang Dynasty (BC1600 - BC1100). Before that Chinese are using natural cowries as money. As the cowries are difficult to obtain in large quantity, people stared to cast bronze cowries to substitute the nature one used in trading. Chou dynasty (BC1100 - BC256) is considered the longest dynasty in Chinese history, which can be divided into two stages. West Zhou (BC1100 - BC770) and East Zhou which consists of 2 periods. Namely Chun Qiu (BC770 -476) and Warring states (BC476 -BC221). Various form of money exist in this period. Spade money, Knife money and round coins (spindle shape), are all evolved from the most useful tools. It was only until Qin Dynasty (BC221 - 207), when emperor Shi Huang Di of state Qin unified the China, the round coin Ban Lian was set as standard currency.
