  • The NexGen 586 processor

The first Pentium clone. It had performance similar to that of a Pentium, but did not use a normal Pentium class (socket 7) socket. For this reason, it was unpopular. NexGen was bought over by AMD. The K6 processor was designed by the NexGen team.

Performance Features Of The NexGen 5x86:

  • Superscalar Execution
  • On-chip Separate L1 Code & Data Caches
  • Branch Prediction
  • 64-bit Buses
  • RISC86 Microarchitecture
  • On-chip Level 2 Cache Controller

RISC86 translates x86 instructions into RISC86 instructions. These RISC86 instructions support the x86 architecture while obeying RISC performance principles. They are thus simpler and faster to execute than the complex x86 instructions.
