Intel 440BX

The Intel 440BX is the first Slot 1 core logic chipset to officially support the 100MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) frequency. This is a 50% increase over the previous 66MHz standard found on the 440LX. Although the increase in FSB frequency does not affect the performance of the Pentium 2's Level 2 cache, it allows for a larger memory bandwidth to be avaliable and this is particularly useful for dealing with large graphical textures.

The Key Features:

  • 100MHz CPU/memory bus
  • 66/75/83/95/100MHz FSB capabilities
  • Up to 512MB SDRAM supported
  • Dual processors supported (SMP)
  • UDMA/33 protocol supported

    Types Of Memory Supported:

  • PC100 SDRAM
  • Extended Data Output (EDO)
  • Fast Page (FP)

Note: Although the 440LX does not officially support the 83MHz FSB frequency, most motherboard manufacturers have successfully released boards that are able to run at this speed (overclocked).
