Dressed like some scholar, I was ready to take on the ABCs and
the 123s. But I didn't know I had to learn Chinese as well.

Time     : 0720hrs
Location : Parry Primary School

Details  :
My first day of school. The beginning of a new stage in life.
I didn't really know the purpose of school. I thought life
was meant to be enjoyed 24hrs a day. Somehow, still made it through
to secondary school.

The Age Of Innocence

Monday, 3 January 1989
Time     : 0715hrs
Location : Serangoon Garden Technical School

Details  :
Here, I finally realised the importance of education. So, I
tell myself that there were a lot of things to be learnt, not
for the my career sake or anything, but it was more for what
I can contribute to mankind. And it was also here that I got
to know who His Airness Michael Jordan was. Thinking I could
be like him, I picked up basketball as my ECA. And to be cool
like the rest, I joined the NCC Land too. I tried to quit when
I was in Sec 2. But my principal talked me out of it and I continued, only to discover later on that I was part of the
best NCC unit in the land. And with my 'O' Levels, I got into
Ngee Ann Polytechnic doing Electronics & Computer Engineering.

Monday, 5 July 1993
Time     : 0810hrs (late for my first lecture)
Location : Ngee Ann PolyTechnic, LT 60 something

Details  :
Couldn't get used to the lecture style of teaching. Had to buy your own notes. But since I hadn't made that many friends yet, I spent most of my time reading my notes. And then, the lazy bug bit me.
The bite was so bad that I skipped almost 70% of my lectures for
my 2nd year and I paid the price. They gave me a string of Ds.
Well, I finally woke up (I think) during my 3rd and final year.
This is the time when I made my first contact with the Internet.
Got addicted like the rest, and didn't do well for my tests.
But, I was proud though. Why? I didn't have to do any supp
papers (except for one : I had to get an MC because I overslept)
Thinking back, I wonder why didn't I choose JC instead of poly?
But what is over, it's over. Life must go on. So does NS !!!!
Class of '96

Friday, 27 September 1996 (aka Judgement Day)
Time     : 0800hrs
Location : Nee Soon East CC

Details  :
It's Enlistment Day!!End of freedom. The beginning of manhood.
I didn't know what to expect but I was happy. Happy because
I was enlisted into the Police Force. The training wasn't as
tough like what some people said. And it was dead true. It was
a holiday camp for me at Police Academy. Training was light but
there were still a few who couldn't take the pressure. I heard
that some senior trainees even took away their own life.
Food was good. We were even treated to 'Western Food' on special
occassions. I must say life in Police Academy was a breeze and
I was expecting that too for my posting to Tanglin Police Division.

Memories of PA

Tuesday, 3 March 1997
Time     : 0830hrs
Location : Classroom, Tanglin Police Division

Details  :
It was showtime. Yes, with the knowledge and skills that we were
taught and trained to do (yeah right!), we were ready to fight
crime. We ready to uphold the law and protect the innocent and...
Before I could go on, I was posted as a sentry (security guard).
This meant that I have stand at least 2 hrs and to remember the
faces of the key officers (big shots) and to salute to them each
time they come in and go out of the station. I couldn't take that
kind of life anymore, and I requested for office hours job.
And thank god, I got it. My post : Staff Assistant to the
Manpower Officer or sampo for short. My job is making officers'
life a living hell. How? By putting them for extra duties for big
events like the National Day, Thaipusam, Chingay etc. I wished
I don't have to do these, but it's my job. 2 years, 8 mths and 27 days later (since Judgement Day), I am still here as a sampo.
But things are getting a lot easier now that I have a replacement
to take over me when my service ends on 26 January 1999. But
my worries aren't over yet. My next great barrier is a job after
ORD. With the economic crisis taking it's toll on a small island
like Singapore, job finding is an instant pastime for the
unemployed and the retrenched. Well, I wouldn't be surprise to
fall into that category one day.
Hey, guess what ? You have just reached the end of my life history
for the time being. Why not just browse through the pics now and
leave the frenzy of the cosmopolitan world behind?
