The US DoJ drops request to break up Microsoft

It would seem that Microsoft has no inclination to discuss potential restrictions on Windows XP and now the DoJ wants the Courts to look at XP.

What does the future hold for HP-Compaq ?

If the merger succeeds (there could very well be opposition from regulators in the US or Europe or revalidation of market prices for the stocks could make the exchange ratio invalid) would the world's 2nd largest company succeed ?  Is it a merger of two equals to gain strength or an attempt by two weakened companies to get together to save themselves ?  Will they kill each other's hardware offerings ?  Will their combined services business take off ?
