Should the PM Resign ?
Of course not. Dr Manmohan Singh has shown great courage and honesty in expressing his feelings about the 1984 riots and outright apologising for what happened then. The Government must follow up on the Nanavati Commission's report and investigate – nay, charge – the named persons. However, calls for the Prime Minister's resignation are quite narrow-minded. Justice would NOT be served by his resignation. Neither would his continuance in office be an insult to Sikhs. On the contrary, let him continue with actions what he has expressed in spoken words this week. He has rightly categorised Delhi and Gujarat. He has rightly stated a willingness to re-look at the “adverse inferences, suggestions and recommendations” made by the Commission.
In fact, I look forward to his Independence Day speech.
