Katherine Harris was irresponsible
Katherine Harris's testimony before the US Civil Rights Commission was certainly "laughable, ha ha ha".
She knew that the company commissioned to draw up the list of convicts for exclusion from the electoral rolls had made mistakes which resulted in denying votes to certain people. Yet she did nothing as the "day to day running was in the hands of Mr Roberts". She couldn't say whether her office had sent out voter education material although she knew it existed. She repeatedly deferred questions -- and what is worse did not ask Mr Roberts the questions herself but requested the Comission to ask him the same questions again. The Commission had to remind her that a) she was legally responsible b) she could have briefed herself by asking Mr Roberts c) at the very least he could whisper the answers in her ear there and then.
The last Sunday before the Monday deadline, she did not keep the offices open to permit a continuation of the recount even though she admits that she could not say which way the result would go. Surely it was her duty to ensure that every vote was counted -- and, therefore, to use every opportunity to do so.
