Book Sale by National Library
Every year, Singapore's National Library Board (www.nlb.gov.sg)
conducts a sale of "old" books and books withdrawn from the library.
The sale is over 2 days and books are sold for $1 and $2
each. About 5,000 people queued up between 7am and 10am
(before its opening) on the first day of the sale. It
got so crowded that entry had to be closed for 1 hour
between 12:30 and 13:30 to reduce the queues at the cashier
counters (and also to adhere to fire safety regulations limiting
the number of people in the exhibition hall). 35,000 people
had visited the sale by 5pm and about 85 percent of the
100,000 books on offer on the first day were taken up.
Each person was allowed to buy a maximum of only 30 books
(and yes, I did see many people walking away with their
full quota of books).

Delhi HC issues notices to IA,AllianceAir
After Sharad Yadav rushed to the airport to divert an
Alliance Air flight, as requested by Bihar MPs,
(see http://web.singnet.com.sg/~hkchital/Notes/28May00.htm)
it is now for Indian Airlines and Alliance Air to explain
why the flight was diverted. Wonder why the Hon'ble Minister
was not a respondent.
