IBM has released specifications for HTTPR (Reliable HTTP) and plans to present it to the IETF. Reliable HTTP (HTTPR) is a new protocol that offers the reliable delivery of HTTP packets between the server and client. This solves a number of issues that are evident in current HTTP and opens the way to reliable messaging between Web services. Reliable messaging refers to the ability of a sender to deliver a message once and only once to its intended receiver. HTTPR is proposed to run over HTTP 1.1 (and thus enable the standard HTTP 1.1 features and HTTPS) while SOAP messages could be transported over HTTPR.
