What should we (India) do ?
What should our (India's) Government do now ? Pakistan arrests a few terrorist leaders, the US asks India to tone down and we back away ? The US is afraid of either a) Musharraf losing control of Pakistan b) Pakistan threatening (using ?) nuclear weapons c) Pakistan not being able to assist the US in it's hunt for OBL. What happens if we back away ?
What guarantee do we have that Pakistan does not once again arm militants and send them into India six months / a year / two years from now ? (let's say that, by then, OBL is captured or dead and the US is no longer in Afghanistan). We would have lost all the momentum and the rest of the world (read "the US") would no longer be interested in Kashmir unless we threaten military action again. Having backed-away once, we'd not really be respected or supported the second time round. Musharraf might do the right thing now but he may not be around six months or a year or two from now. Our war is not against Musharraf -- it is against terrorism which might receive support from any other Government in Pakistan.
No, there can be no withdrawal --- no matter what actions Pakistan pretends to take -- even if a few terrorist leaders are actually handed over to India. At a minimum, i) ALL those on our "Wanted" list must be in Indian prisions, ii) the training camps must be physically destroyed by India, iii) all financial support must be permanently cut-off and iv) the ISI leadership must be cleansed.
