Let there be war !

Read T V R Shenoy's article "Let there be war !"   [15-Jan-02].

Also read Varsha Bhosale's articles "That tired formula again ..."  [07-Jan-02] and "Too little, too late"  [24-Dec-01]

Shekhar Gupta, writing before Musharraf's speech, wrote "General needs a rewrite"  [12-Jan-02].

J.N. Dixit's article "Uncertain alliances"  [11-Jan-02] is about what he sees of the US Governments, US lawmakers, US armchair analysts and the common US people {I wonder how many common persons did he really talk to}.

Also read the Hindustan Times editorial "Threshold of patience"  [15-Jan-02] by Manvendra Singh.

My words :

We really can't be sure how much we can trust Musharraf (remember Agra ?).  Let us take the far-fetched assumption that he has turned a new leaf and is doing something good now.  What guarantees do we have that he will be around 6 weeks, 6 months, 2 years from now ?  What guarantees that any good done now in Pakistan will continue for the next few decades ?  Also remember that Pakistan is "still committed to Kashmir".  What we need to do now is take back PoK.

If India has suffered for decades there is no reason why we should just sit tight and wait and watch what he does.  The chance to take ACTION will slip out of our hands.

[and for God's sake, the US, whatever it thinks of itself, is not the only arbiter what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad].

However, there is another side to look at.  If the terrorists have really been receiving support in Kashmir there must be some reason why.  Kashmir with it's "special status" and seperate treatment doesn't seem to belong to mainstream India.  Do away with the "special status", hold elections, bring in development projects (it is the unemployed who are most likely to be lured to terrorism, not those who have well-paying jobs).
