Student Pass Application Procedures

1) Overseas students on courses longer than 4 weeks must study 15 - 45 hours per week and apply for Student Passes.  

2) New Student Pass applications must be submitted at least 2 months before the course start date. You must send inlingua your documents and forms 2 months before your course.

3) As soon as you send us your completed "Overseas Student Enrolment Form", we will fax / e-mail / post our OSEF Acceptance Letter.  

4) inlingua ® School of Languages sponsors / processes Student Passes for a minimal charge of S$214. This covers the following :
a) Singapore Immigration Visa Fee.  
b) Bank Charges.
c) Tuition Fee Insurance (A Government requirement - please refer to www.SophosAsia.com/overseas_student_guide.htm).  It does not cover document translation charges.  There are extra charges for document translation, or if the enrolment period is extended.  

Self-Sponsored Student Pass Application:
You can also ask a friend - a Singapore citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident - to sponsor your Student Pass.

5) After you receive the OSEF Acceptance Letter, you should pay the first S$400 of your fees (this is not an additional cost, but part payment of the fees).

6) Tuition Fee Insurance : After you pay the S$400, we will apply for tuition fee insurance for you.  We will keep safely your "Certificate of Student Insurance".  The Master Insurance Policy is available at Reception.

7) We will post by EMS SpeedPost the Student Pass Application Form.  You can also download and print Form 16, Form V-39-S and Form V36 from the Singapore Immigration website:

(You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the Student Pass application forms)

8) All overseas students must send to us by registered mail photocopies/certified-true copies of the following documents:
a) Birth certificate (photocopy & certified-true translation);
b) Highest educational certificate and detailed transcript of results (photocopies & certified-true translations);
c) passport (photocopy);
d) 2 recent passport-sized photographs;
e) Student Pass Application Form (fully completed and signed);

IF you need a Single-Entry Visa, we also need:
f) bank statements / fixed deposit accounts / savings accounts / company sponsorship letter (photocopies).

9) Official translation of the documents is required if they are not in the English language.

10) You must bring your original documents to Singapore for verification.

11) Your Student Pass will be approved in about 4 weeks.

12) After your Student Pass is approved, you must pay a refundable Immigration Security Deposit to the Singapore Government as follows :

13) A Student Pass is not required for foreign students who hold an Employment Pass, a Training Pass or a Dependent's Pass.

14) You are not allowed to work while holding a Student Pass.


If one of your parents is a Singapore Citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident, you must send us the following additional documents:
a) Parents' marriage certificate / divorce certificate (photocopy);
b) Parent's highest educational certificate (photocopy or certified copy);
c) Parent's letter of employment (letter should state date of commencement of employment, designation, and salary per month), or, if parent is self-employed, Business Registration Certificate.  These documents should not be issued more than 1 month ago;
d) Parent's monthly CPF contributions for the past 12 months;
e) Parent's Income Tax Assessment Notices for the past 3 years (photocopy).

If your spouse (husband or wife) is a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident, you must send us the following additional documents:
a) Spouse's marriage certificate / divorce certificate (photocopy);
b) Spouse's highest educational certificates and transcripts (photocopy or certified copy)
c) Spouse's letter of employment (letter should state date of commencement of employment, designation, and salary per month), or, if spouse is self-employed, Business Registration Certificate.  These documents should not be issued more than 1 month ago;
d) Spouse's monthly CPF contributions for the past 12 months;
e) Spouse's Income Tax Assessment Notices for the past 3 years (photocopy).
