WANSHU
Introduction
The kata was named after a chinese envoy. It is also known as Empi
or flying swallow in Shotokan.
Steps
- Kama-tte (Face North). Move
right leg towards left leg and stand in musubi dachi. Simultaneously bring
both fists towards chest and change into open hands with left hand in
front of the right hand. Rotate both hands inwards and end up with both
finger tips pointing downwards. Close both feet to form heisoku dachi and
change both hands into fists. Place them in front of the body such that
both their palm side face each other. Right fist above left.
- Right leg step towards North
into left Nekoashi dachi and perform right hara uke.
- Turn right, right leg steps
East to form left Nekoashi dachi and perform right hara uke.
- Perform a left hand punch on
the same stance.
- Turn left, left leg steps
North to form right Nekoashi dachi and perform left hara uke.
- Perform a left shuto uke with
right fist at the side.
- Move to left crane stance and
right fist perform a jodan yoko uchi against left palm.
- Right feet steps North into
right moto dachi and perform a right gedan barai.
- Perform a left hand punch.
- Turn left, left leg shift into
right Nekoashi dachi and perform a left hara uke.
- Perform a left shuto uke with
right fist at the side.
- Punch with right hand.
- Right leg steps forward and
form kosa dachi with left leg behind. Pull back right fist into a vertical
position with right palm facing body and punch with left hand.
- Turn left 180 degrees. Move
left leg east to form right Nekoashi dachi and perform a left hara uke.
- Perform a left shuto uke with
right fist at the side.
- Punch with right hand.
- Right leg steps forward and
form kosa dachi with left leg behind. Pull back right fist into a vertical
position with right palm facing body and punch with left hand.
- Turn left and shift left leg
North to form right Nekoashi dachi. Perform a left hara uke.
- Pull back left hand and
perform a right nagashi uke.
- Right leg step forward into
right moto dachi and simultaneously perform a right yoko uke and left hara
uke.
- Left leg step forward into
left moto dachi and simultaneously perform a left yoko uke and right hara
uke.
- Right leg step forward into
right moto dachi and simultaneously perform a right yoko uke and left hara
uke.
- Left leg step south into
reverse zenkutsu dachi. Right hand perform gedan barai while left fist is
at the side. Look north.
- Look south and perform a left
age-uke.
- Take two steps forward and at
the same time turn left 180 degrees and land in left Nekoashi dachi and
perform a right shuto uke.
- Right leg step back into
right Nekoashi dachi and perform a left shuto uke.
- Nao-tte. Pull back left foot
to form heisoku dachi. Simultaneously bring both fists in front of the
body such that both their palm side face each other. Right fist above
left. Change to open hands and bring both hands towards chest and rotate
both hands inwards and end up with both finger tips pointing downwards.
Stance change into musubi dachi. Right leg move right to form Hachiji
dachi and stand in Nao-tte position.
