TThe idea of an alumni for the first batch of graduates of Golden Gate University, San Franciso distance learning program was mooted immediately after its commencement. The primary objective of the alumni at that time being to keep every graduate in touch with each other and to foster continuation through a network of support from the institution(s) and organization each graduate represents. In the light of this rush, rush, environment we continue to live in, an Alumni would provide this platform where we can meet on a regular basis, keeping each other updated of our progress or regress, sharing new ideas and keeping in touch with the latest business environment through the collective gathering of experiences from the members. The secondary objective is that in the pursuit of education, the past graduates can act as a spring board for the new graduates to grow and develop.

Since these collective goals appear challenging enough to the first batch graduates, the more enthusiastic ones started to gather all the necessary information to form a GGU Alumni in Singapore. A copy of the existing constitution from the GGU Alumni in San Franciso was obtained and Mr. Sunny Chan assisted by his personnel administrator, Ms Chia Lai Cheng, began to formulate the Singapore Chapter constitution which was written with a regional establishment in mind as there were classes of GGU in Malaysia, Indonesia and even in the northern countries of Asia. The broad coverage of the constitution allows the Alumni to expand wherever it is needed. With the completion of the constitution, the Singapore Chapter of Golden Gate University Alumni Association was thus registered with the Registrar of Societies on 19 September, 1992. Its first president was the same person who formulated the constitution, Mr. Sunny Chan who is the Vice President of Site Services, TECH Semiconductor (S) Pte Ltd. Mr Chan remained as President for more than four years until Ms Tan Lee Jee, Vice President of Bank of America, took over the helm on February, 1997. Over the four years, membership has increased from forty-six to over a hundred today. Dinners cum talks of executive interest such as executive grooming and property have been held regularly. The GGU alumni will be officially launched on 22 July, 1997.
