This entire project, or idea, or scheme, (of giving free books, tapes, etc.) is based on "the honour system". That is to say, it presupposes that people are honest, decent folks who will not try to bilk other honest, decent folks (like me).
The stuff to be given out here is genuinely free, with no strings attached. You do not have to purchase petrol from selected gas stations, you do not have to say "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper" 100 times (unless you want to bathe the guy facing you with saliva), you do not have to do anything other than e-mail me with your request(s) for the free materials.
BTW, in case some of you haven't yet realised, this is an unabashed attempt on my part to held spread the Catholic Faith. Please don't ask me for the latest John Grisham paperback. The intended "market" (for want of a better word) comprises people (whether Catholic or not) who'd rather be hung, drawn and quartered than purchase anything to do with the Faith. This webpage is for you guys.
By sending your e-mail request, you are (in effect) saying:
|
1. |
I'm an honourable person. |
|
2. |
I don't normally purchase Catholic materials. |
|
3. |
However, if they're given free, I'll be happy to receive 'em. |
|
4. |
(If the item requested is a book) I promise to read it, or to pass it to somebody who'd read it. I will not use pages from the book to line my bird-cage. |
|
5. |
(If the item requested is a tape) I promise to listen to it, or to pass it to somebody who'd listen to it. I will not use the tape to record the Top 40 Countdown from the radio. |
|
6. |
I will not use the item(s) requested for monetary gain (spiritual gain is fine). |
|
7. |
I understand that there is no intention in any way to create legal relations between the parties. The promise to send free materials is purely gratuitous and is wholly unsupported by consideration, and as such, is legally unenforceable in any court of law. I further understand that the promisor has an unfettered discretion to determine in what manner (if at all) he wishes to comply with a request made by myself. |
