Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is The Young Republic?
A: The Young Republic (not to be confused with "The New Republic"!) is currently a Yahoogroups mailing list which was set up on 19 October 2003 by a group of young Singaporeans to discuss matters of serious interest.
Q: How many members are there?
A: There are more than 140 members on the list, as of 5th March 2005.
Q: Who started this list?
A: The list was started by Jie Kai. He can be contacted via email, kohfamey@pacific.net.sg
Q: Who did this website?
A: This website was also done by him. (Which explains the very bare looking pages. But that will change).
Q: The discussions look interesting. How do I take part?
A: You can take part in the discussions by joining our mailing list. Contact Jie Kai via email. Or call him @ 91160953. Or you can go to Yahoogroups and search for "youngrepublic".
The mailing address for the group is youngrepublic@yahoogroups.com
Q: I want to be a part of the mailing list, but I'm afraid I might not have anything interesting to say!
A: No problem! No one is forced to give an opinion on this mailing list. As long as you look forward to reading the discussions on the list, you will always be welcome.
Q: Is this mailing list restricted to Singaporeans only?
A: This mailing list is for the young Singaporean in the broad sense- for every young person who has spent a substantial amount of time in Singapore. We are always open to guests from other lands. However as a token of courtesy please inform the webmaster Jie Kai at kohfamey@pacific.net.sg if you are neither a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, if you wish to participate in the mailing list.
Q: Does The Young Republic have any political affiliation/s?
A: No it doesn't. The views expressed by the members are their own. The mailing list does not have any specific affiliations or bias to any political party in Singapore or abroad.
Q: Are there any future plans for The Young Republic?
A: Certainly! We hope that this website will be the starting point for a more regularly maintained site updated with articles by young Singaporeans. We also look forward to moving the discussions to an online forum.
Eventually, it is hoped that an online and print magazine will grow out of The Young Republic. More plans and details will be discussed at an appropriate time.
But first we need your support! And we hope to see your presence, (and your opinions!) on our mailing list soon...
