The look of love I was comtemplating for weeks whether I should leave the safe Nokia haven and venture into something else that has got me salivating, which was the SL45. Finally held my breath and bought the S45 instead because of GPRS. I didn't think I needed the MP3 as well. Boy, was I glad. This phone is so much more sophisticated than any Nokia you can find!! The navigation is fantastic, and the UI (user interface) is more powerful than any phone I have ever touched. It feels like a sexy little toy in my hand! I thought I was going to miss out on all the logos and ringtones, only to find out I can download and even make so many logos that I am changing logos on a daily basis! The calendar is so feature-packed that I am starting to leave my Sony CLIE at home. What can I say? We can finally start laughing at the Nokia owners. Of course, this phone won't gain the number of fans Nokia has. It should stay that way. The phone belongs only in the exclusive ranks, not the common ranks.
The 'S' in S45 is for Style Read all the user opinions and you know this phone excels in terms of its aesthetics, functionally loaded features and amazing orange-y illumination display. Screensaver and bitmap fanatics will go bonkers just exploring these great creations. Still, Siemens MUST work even harder (not to mention faster) in terms of software improvements, IrDA support and PDA compatibility issues. The melody composer, albeit not your typical Nokia or Ericsson type, will make you (your phone actually) the topic of conversation at the dinner table. Unless you're a music buff, be prepared to spend hours just learning. Fun is the word. Conclusion: Not for the faint-hearted or those owners who all this while have been faithful followers of their previous brands. I guarantee you will be left inspired!
Unique, feature-packed, undiscovered Great T9 inputs, Chinese-English dictionary. Seamless integration with Windows Outlook. Simply great!
The best in orange I think the S45 is better than the Nokia 8250 I had. I like the S45's organizer and the backlight color. Of course, I'm quite disappointed that there's no caller group pictures like Nokia and the buttons are squeaky. But I like the S45 better than the Nokia 8250. Smart phone with excellent features.
Not bad! More software upgrade please After 1.5 months of thorough usage and testing of the S45(6618), I discovered that this phone (version 01) has a lot of software bugs just like Nokia. The common bugs usually cause the phone to shut down and long waiting mode (hang, showing the hour glass icon). For example, games like Stacker have bugs, too. If the man falls in between the crates, he will never able to jump out of it! If someone sends some hidden ASCII codes through SMS to you, and if you read, edit and save this, then "buzz", shut down! But chances of receiving such messages are slim, unless someone tries to play with you. Anyway, now the new software version is 02. Please press *#06# to check your version. There are other test buttons, too. If you still using version 01, please go down to Kallang or Wisma to ask Siemens for a software upgrade. Furthermore, the upgrade is free if your phone is still under warranty! Else expect to pay S$15.45 (including GST). New version 02 of the software does solve some major bugs in the games and organizer, but I have also found new bugs, too! Maybe I'll create a non-official Web site for the S45 (6618) if anyone is interested, provided I have time to spare! Cheers, Siemens!
A tightly packed feature-filled phone for the spunky businessman I've owned Nokia 5110, 6110, 8110, 8810, 3810, 3210, 3310, 8250, Motorola v3688i, Bosch 706, Siemens C25, S35i, M35i, Alcatel OT-701!. Now that I've bought the Siemens S45 for a week, I can't remember the last time I've had a phone that was this satisfying and fun to explore during the first few days! The last one that came close to this was the experience I had with the Nokia 6110. The S45 is really a nice thing with a prestige of its own, and a fun phone to explore (features galore!). I have one small minor complaint, though. The keys are too small. This phone is one of the best ambassadors of Siemens! Tomorrow, I'm planning to buy myself a Siemens SL45! Hmm... MP3, anyone?
Excellent phone in a small package With the new generation of phones from Siemens, it looks like the company is really going to take the mobile war to Nokia. Great phone packed with heaps of features in a very attractive small package. My only complaints: * Siemens Web site has no product support information * Infrared communications is very flaky (cannot get it to work!)
A little pricey but good I've been using this phone for a week and find the reception better than my previous phone, the Nokia 3310. Other than the near-impossible-to-use (for me anyway) ringtone composer, I love it!! Good looks, lightweight, beautiful LCD, and most importantly, long battery lifetime.
Superb phone for normal user! It's really value for money phone. Pretty well equipped with necessary features and ease to use. Unless you need Bluetooth, Blacktooth, techz, blah, blah, GPS guidance system or other sorts of high-tech systems with high prices.
One of the best choices of phones I've made so far... The phone display alone is worth the change! Not to mention a whole lot of better features. But the SMS text input needs a more user-friendly function to switch between numbers and alphabet. Takes a bit more time to input an SMS message, but overall a very good phone.
SL45 is much better than S45 The 32MB MMC interchangeable memory vs 360KB. What can we do with 360KB of space? SL45's 32MB MMC can store ringtones in .mid, logos in .bmp, MP3s, Outlook contacts and calendar... almost the same as the S45, but with 32MB. I'd rather spend S$100 more and get an SL45.
Best phone! This phone is a much better choice than the Nokia 8310 (radio sucks)
or Siemens SL45 (MP3 player sucks even more). Buy!
Limited IR support It does not support dial-up from your notebook via IR. You need to use a serial port and cable. Felt that this is rather not up to date as the ports are there but are limited by the software and design
Lacks features No Bluetooth, no triband. Sells at S$498 for two-year plan. Very expensive compared to the Ericsson T39 and T68.
No Bluetooth The Ericsson T68 and T39 have all that the ME45 and S45 have, but they have Bluetooth as well. Fast data access will be a major selling point for any GPRS phone, but I really don't want to have to balance the phone on my lap next to the IrDA port on my laptop in order to use it. Come on Siemens, give us Bluetooth as well. Then you *will* have the best phone money can buy. I work in the mobile industry writing type approval/validation software for mobiles--and I have seen them all!
The best The S45 seems to be a stripped-down version of the SL45 (minus the MP3). However, it makes up in terms of the GPRS feature. No doubt, the S45 is going to be a hit. I only regret that I didn't wait till August for the S45 and bought the S40 instead. Then again, a few years down the road, there maybe a 3G + Bluetooth phone coming though. I am waiting for it...
