Ericsson T68

Nokia threw down the gauntlet with its 8310. Sony Ericsson Singapore will soon pick it up with the T68. A company spokesperson has revealed to Singapore.CNET.com that mid-November will be the launch date for its color-screen GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) phone. The T68 will sport a number of high-end features, including triband, high-speed data transfer, Bluetooth capability, as well as a 256-color eight-line display. However, the phone's planned Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) function has been downscaled to Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS). This has been due to concerns over present network support for MMS, the spokesperson said. As a result of this simplification, the phone's launch date has been brought forward. The T68 will also pip Mitsubishi Electric's color-screen Trium Eclipse to the post. According to the Sony Ericsson spokesperson, the T68 is expected to retail for under S$1,000 without a contract.

T68m export set is out now Well, I've a hold of this powerful little thing. Nothing that special about the menu. Only thing is it's in color. Selling at S$900 without a line.

This phone is awesome! I just bought this phone and am very happy with it. I don't have any Bluetooth devices yet but headset will be my next purchase. Check out eBay where these are being sold for around S$600. With the release of the T68, Ericsson is going to destroy Nokia. If you want one of these phones, email me and I might be able to get you one.

Very nice, but... I just bought the T68 two days ago, and it really gave me a surprise, especially the color LCD. Here I would like to list the bad points: The keypad is too light, and the lamp for the keypad gets reduced near the bottom. Also, it lacks customization, unlike my previous SL45 which can be connected easily to the PC. For a high-end cellphone, the package comes with very minimal accessories.

The best handphone I have ever seen! I have been waiting for the Nokia 8310 since July 2001, but fortunately I saw a man in the MRT with a very unique-looking handphone and it was an Ericsson handphone. I surfed the Net when I reached the office, and I discovered the T68 model of Ericsson. Then suddenly I changed my mind and waited for the T68 to come out. This afternoon I saw the Ericsson T68 in Lucky Plaza. I think it's the only store with this model. Without hesitation I bought the handphone for S$1,000. I know the price will go down after a few weeks or months, but I don't care, I love the phone and I won't regret it. I may be one of the first to have this phone in Singapore, and to top it all, it's made from Sweden.

A final breakthrough since the GH337/388 Having seen the actual phone, the feel is quite comfortable even for guys with bigger fingers. The color screen with graphical icons makes your mobile more appealing, especially if you're a Mac user. Built-in antenna makes storing in pants pockets for guys or handbags for ladies a pleaser. Bluetooth is great, drivers would love the cable-free entanglement woes when picking up a call. Launch the HBH-20 together and this will be an added bonus! Lithium-polymer battery will be a boost to heavy users because of its general longer life span. However, if its pricing is in the range of S$800+ with contract, I would think that it will make users more cautious in purchasing although I know Singaporeans will buy without considering seriously, in order to own one. Ericsson has not had the good reputation of holding its value for its phones. Remember the T28? S$1,388? Kelvin.

Nokia killer! This phone will finally put an end to all stupid and low-quality Nokia phones.

Wait... if you can Well, my advice is to wait... wait for a time when all phones comes with color displays, then take your pick. In the future, color phones will be no big deal. I'm tempted by this phone although I just bought the Nokia 8310.

The pinnacle of GSM mobile phones Based on my short experience with the T68, this phone takes what the T39M excelled in and pushes it into overdrive! You have everything (except FM radio/MP3/Dictaphone) that a mobile phone can cramp into a frame that is equivalent to the Nokia 8210. Quality of the material used is excellent as always from an Ericsson phone. With so much features, the menu is very easy to navigate, especially with the joystick. Most clearly now is that it is in 256 colors! Games and WAP/GPRS will finally be interesting (subject to content, of course). Advisable for the price not to breach the S$888 barrier as two-thirds of the features are similar to the T39M and that the model is going for less than S500 now; S$300 difference is difficult to justify even for a 256-color screen. Note: Not to follow the path of Nokia with its 8310 where the price does not justify the wide price gap. Also, the reliability. Get that right the first time and the T68 will be impossible to beat. Note: Nokia 8310 sales have suffered setbacks due to its current unstable software

This phone might redefine the features for all future 2.5G phone You are now able to try the phone by going to: www2.sonyericssonmobile.com/t68 It has color themes like MS-Windows-colored wallpaper, a start-up animation of a rising sun on the horizon of the earth (like Netscape Navigator icon). I won't mention more of the other special features which are either the same as the T39m or an improvement from the T39m. This phone definitely redefines what the 2.5G phone should be, just like when Nokia introduced the 8810 four years ago which redefined what all 2G phones should be.
