Stuck in your Prayer Life?

Need help getting started? Here’s a few pointers that I have found useful:

  1. Ask the Lord what He wants you to be praying about. Wisdom (James) 1 Jon 5:14-15. It says that when you ask Him according to His will, He hears us, so lets get asking!
  2. Pray the scriptures back to Him. There is a rich and largely untapped tradition of praying the scriptures back to Him. You can do that by choosing verses that resonate with your current need (eg. Psalms) and pray them back word for word, first person back to the Lord. Best is, over time, you will never be stuck and yuckie in your prayer life again!
  3. Pray in the prayer gift of tongues ( 1 Cor). Paul says to the Corinthian church that he prays in tongues more than you all. This devotional gift of tongues has been one of the most unutilized, overlooked, and despised gifts in the body of Christ. Lets reclaim that gift and pray in tongues daily.
  4. Keep a prayer journal of chit-chats you have had with God. Yes, write down what you say to the Lord, and journal what the Lord says back to you. You’d be surprised how often God is waiting to speak a word into our lives but we are not taking the initiative to journal.
  5. Read the stories of how God has spoken to His servants in the Bible. Look up the lives of people like, Abraham, David, Samuel, and Jesus all biblical characters who had a habit of hearing and communing with God.
  6. When you pray, pray in faith (Heb ) That He is the one listening to you, and He will answer. God’s answer to our prayers, contrary to popular belief, isn’t just yes, no, or, wait. There are other things He might say to your heart about why, how, when, what for, eg.
  7. Love the people you serve in your family and church family by praying for them. As you pray for them, ask the Lord to share His heart for His people.
  8. Take time out several times a year 5o have extended time with the Lord. We spend extended times with family at Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and other National Holidays, but often not with the Lord at all. Don’t just wait for church camp. Take a half-day leave quarterly and wait upon the Lord.
  9. Finally, pray, pray, and keep on praying, don’t give up just yet for…
