Home Page of the Lee Family
Hello and welcome to our home page!
歡迎 We are a
young family with four members; Kok Seng (國成), Juat Fwee (月翡) and our
twin daughters Wen Di (Diane)(文玓) and Wen Li (Liane) (文瓅).
We live in the central north part of Singapore close to Pierce reservoir, a
beautiful and nature surrounding. Central north is a water catchment area of
Singapore, and therefore, much of the place is kept natural, this is very
different from other parts of Singapore which are more known as "concrete
jungle".
For more information on Singapore, please check the Singapore Infomap
page.

On us!
Kok Seng and Juat Fwee have many things in common, here are some of
many things, :-)
- Both took the unusual route in education, despite having a choice of the orthodox avenue to higher
degree; choose to read for a Diploma in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, instead of a GCE 'A' level
at Hwa Chong and Termasek Junior College.
- Both ended up in Semiconductor indudstry between 1982 to 1985; one with Texas Instruments as
System Programmer and one with Fairchild Semiconductor as System Technician.
- Both made it to Nanyang Technological Institute for Bachelor degree in Engineering in 1985 and
graduate with top honours in 1988.
- Both worked for AlliedSignal Inc. as R& D engineers for Flight Management System
laboratory at Olathe, Kansas, United States of America.
- Both are part of a three member system architects for a very successful new line of long range flight
navigation systems designed in Singapore for AlliedSignal Inc.
And of course, both are proud parents of our lovely twin daugthers!
Our weekends are spent with our extended families; both of us have strong
bonds with our paternal homes - that's why we came back from USA - no
place is better like 'home'! :-)

Expeditions together
Juat Fwee and Kok Seng have done many 'expeditions' together, we have in
our record:
- Visted many national parks, monuments in USA, both on the beatened tracks and off:
Ozarks in Missouri, Yellow Stone in Wyoming, Teton in Wyoming, Olympics in Washington, Black
Canyon in Colorado, Rockies in Colorado, Crater lakes in Oregon, Colorado Monuments in Colorado,
Mesa Vede in Colorado, Grand Canyon in Arizona, Dead Valley in Nevada, La Push beach in
Washington, Nigara Falls on Canda and New York side, Smoky Mountain in Tennesse, Mamoth caves in
kentucky, Corn Palace at South Dakota, Mount Rushmore, black forest at South Dakota, Seven Falls at
Colorado Springs, .... write to me if you want to hear our experiences or share your experiences with us!
- We both like photography and took many many photos of nature, of us. We discovered slide
photography in 1990, and enjoyed reviewing the life size projections ever since.
- Visted Phuket at Thailand, but guess what? Our camera failed on us! No photos :-(
- Visted New Zealand on our second honeymoon. (see, we are very good employees; we postponed our
honeymoon cos' the project we both are working on at AlliedSignal at that time was very critical to
company success, ... well, AlliedSignal repaid by closing down the R& D center, ...so much
for loyalty to American company that do not know how to plan!) Toured both the north and south islands,
enjoyed it thoroughly - may be so cos' we just came off from a very very hetic schedule; finishing off a
project done in record time (from 36 months down to 14 months) and our Master degree course at NUS.
- Produced ;-) a pair of twins from a mother who is a twin! Well, Juat Fwee is part of a pair of twin
herself! ... don't ask... her twin sister Juat Swee yet to have twin kids ... well, yet ....ok.

Our Kids
Our daugthers Wen Di (Diane) and Wen Li (Liane) came to us on February
11, 1995. They were born natural, and four minues apart (incidently, Juat
Fwee and her twin sister is born four minutes apart too!). Di Li in chinese
means "Ray emitting from a pearl", the chinese characters are rare-used
characters these days. Both of them are growing fast and getting to be very
active!

Our Friends
Many of our friends are common as many of the colleagues of ours at
AlliedSignal have become close friends - having worked in US and Singapore
together for so many years. Each person have different character and
through the years, we have seen the real-side of almost all those that were
with us in US. Our greatest achievement in USA is to experience the human
side of things; how one's behaviour can change under isolation from home,
how one will deviate from principles to climb corporate ladder, how one's
religious beliefs can be so different in two countries. ... well, better not say
too much of this sort of things ... or someone will get the impression that we
are getting old .. :-)

Our Careers
Kok Seng and Juat Fwee both benefited from EDBs INTECH program in
1988. They were attached to AlliedSignal's laboratories at Olathe Kansas,
USA for two-year on-the-job work. Through the attachment, both have
gained many experiences in Software Engineering, being credited at
AlliedSignal as top-class software designers at the flight management system
laboratory, and subsequently, key members in Singapore design
laboratory.

Our Computers
We own many computers:
- Arcade Apple ][ computer which Kok Seng built in 1983, complete with
two floppy drives, a Z80 CPM/80 card, a 128KB Saturn RAM card - all built
from hard-earned money from working part-time to repair Apple ][ boards
in People's Park. Remember the good old days where you have to pay S$800
for a floppy drive that have a capacity of 143KB? The Shugart floppy drive
happens to be very reliable and a very good one in those days.
- A IBM PC/XT compatible, which has a 10MHz V20 CPU, 640KB of DRAM, a 1.2MB floppy drive,
a 360KB floppy drive, a Seagate 20MB ST-225 hard drive with a DTC controller and a CGA controller.
This computer reminds me of the weeks of agony to part with the S$500++ to buy
the Seagate 20MB drive back in 1986, especially so since I stopped work as
a System Technician to pursue my bachelor degree surviving on scholarship
money and savings.
- A 386DX 20MHz portable computer, with 2MB of DRAM, a 387 co-processor,
a 10-inch STN 4-level LCD, a 1.2MB floppy drive, 65MB Mitsubishi RLL Hard
drive, a Hayes internal 2400 baud modem. This computer cost me S$5000
when a bought it in USA via mail-order. Believe me, we shopped around enough
to find the cheapest portable that we can find in 1989 (exchange rate was 1.8).
We recently upgraded this computer with a IDEPRO card (S$39) from Storage Technology
which allow me to add old IDE drives along side with my RLL drive. The disk
capacity is now flexible - we can add any junk low capacity drive anytime. This
computer has turned into a "doctor" computer that saved many crashed systems
of our friends.
- A 386SX-25MHz desktop, complete with a 1.2MB floppy drive, 1.44MB floppy
drive, a Miniscribe 41MB IDE hard drive, a Super VGA card with 2MB display RAM,
and 2MB of system RAM. This CPU board has been de-commissioned, but the
peripherals are used with a 386DX-40MHz (AMD inside!) with 4MB RAM and another 41MB old
Miniscribe hard drive in our sister's Insurance company - new lease of life.
- A 486DX2 50MHz (Intel inside !) ARIS, complete with a 1.2MB floppy, 1.44MB floppy,
4x TEAC CDROM, a Creative Sound Blaster 16 Sound Card, a Mustek Hand scanner,
an Intel 144 FAX/Modem, a Prolink 144 FAX/Modem, a Summit 250E Tape Backup,
a 2x Matsushita CDROM, 450MB Maxtor IDE drive, 540MB Cornner IDE drive and 8MB
of DRAM. This system runs MSDOS 6.2, Windows 3.1, OS/2 Warp and Linux 1.2.11
in separate partitions.
