If you want to know the answers to many parenting questions, join a support group to help you make an informed decision. You'll be relieved to know you're not alone. 2. Down Syndrome : Infant Support Group DSA runs support groups for members who have infants with Down syndrome aged 3 years and below. The aims of support group are to provide mutual support and opportunities to exchange experiences, discuss common issues and concerns in caring for a baby with Down syndrome. Augmentative and Alternative Communication Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to methods of communication that enhance (augment) or replace (alternative) conventional forms of expression. Individuals who use AAC use a variety of methods to communicate. These can range from manual signs to complex electronic communication devices. AAC enables individuals with little or no functional express themselves, form relationships, and participate in school or the work place. It is empowering! Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Singapore (CLAPAS) and Family Support Group (FSG) CLAPAS is the professional body comprising members who are health professionals involved in the treatment and care of cleft patients. The CLAPAS family support group is affiliated to CLAPAS. It is made up of parents of, families of and individuals with cleft deformities, and other friends (nurses), who come together with a shared interest in helping individuals with cleft deformities.

(65) 6321 4631. 12. TOUCH Caregivers Centre NEW Touch Caregivers Center is a one-stop community resource centre. It aims to enhance skills and develop coping strategies to assist in the caring role. The Centre provides practical help, information and support to caregivers and people with disabilities. This support group is organised for patients with Turner syndrome and their families. Children's Medical Institute and the pharmaceutical company Serono have jointly organised biannual meetings and parties for the members of the group. We hope to bring the patients and their families together to educate and increase awareness about this condition, and more importantly to be acquainted with other families with children who have Turner syndrome. The children and their parents can discuss and voice their concerns to the health professionals and the other families, and learn to cope better with the condition. Contact: NUH Turner

14. Neonatology Parent Support Group NEW a) KK Women's and Children's Hospital The support group is managed by doctors and nurses from the Department of Neonatology in KKH. The support group aims to help parents with premature babies cope better. Monthly sharing sessions among parents of current Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies and parents of ex-NICU babies are organised for members to draw support from one another. Some other activities include a special educational programme for parents of low birth weight infants to prepare them for their babies' discharge, and home care visits for babies with special needs e.g. home oxygen therapy. b) National University Hospital Early Starter Club is a support group for preterm infants and their parents. The group was started in 12 Feb 1994. It is made up of volunteer parents, medical social workers, physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacist, dietitian, nurses and doctors. Preterm infants and their parents often face unique concerns and issues, both during hospitalization and after discharge. Since 2002, the group is affiliated to Club Rainbow, Singapore, a non-government charitable organization. The group organizes two meetings / workshops a year to address the unique concerns of parents of premature infants. Other activities include parent buddy for parents of newly admitted preterms and home visitation of newly discharged patients. There is also a newsletter for the group.
