I agree with what is stated in the article. Since the beginning when the government first introduced the idea of having a casino here,  I did not really like the idea. I think we are a pretty conservative Asian country however urbanized we may be, Asian values are still deeply entrenched in our minds and I don't think a casino would work for us. I feel that the social problems caused by having a casino are too serious. We certainly do not want half our population going bankrupt, families splitting and divorce rates going up, do we? These would just add to the problems we are already facing, increasing divorce rates, shortage of babies, declining young generation etc. I don't think we should have a casino  just to attract more tourists. Tourists are visiting our country to see the sights, taste our culture, not gamble. If they wanted to gamble, they could go to one in their own country, as many countries do have a casino. I, for one, feel that we should consider the impacts it would have on Singapore and Singaporeans and not just do things for the sake of boosting our economy. If many families in Singapore are going bankrupt, that would certainly not help our economy, will it? I really hope that the idea would be abolished.
