Checking your E-mail before
you down load
Some time people sent you
E-mail with very big file attachment and happen that you have already received
the file attachment before or your mail box had been flooded. You can acutally
connect to our local ISP using telnet to their POP3 server.eg mbox4.singnet.com.sg
, pacific.net.sg (please refer to your ISP for the address their POP3 server
name) and view the content of the file and delete it .
Here a simple guide
in which you can delete those mail which you don't wish to received. First
in the task bar click on to "START"
then click on " Run.."
key in the word "telnet".
After the telnet
have been loaded , click on to "Connect"
then click on "Remote system..."
,then there will be a window showing up.
In the host name
box ,type in the name of the POP server which you want to connect to ,eg
mbox4.singnet.com.sg ,pacific.net.sg. Then in the Port box , type in 110
. Finally click on to the button "Connect"
.
After connecting
, you will need to use the following commands :

user_name |
-the server need to know your user name |
| pass you_E-mail_password |
-and then your password |
| list |
-list the content in your mail box |
| retr mail_number |
-view message *** |
| dele mail_number |
-delete message |
| quit |
-quit the connection |
Note***
when you view the message , attachment might show in binary form and take
long time to view .When you see this happen , click on "Connect"
and then "Disconnect"
to stop viewing .
1-After successful connection these words will be show.
2-After the command "user user_name"
these words will be show.
3-After the command "pass pass_word"
these words will be show.
4-After the command "list mail_number"
these words will be show
5-mail number
6-mail size.
Suggested
way of viewing is to use forwarding service by the local ISP when it forward
your mail to other E-mail address and at the same time keep a copy on your
mail box, like internet base E-mail address or your school/work account
to view it .
