The Paper Cha$e

Well, well....you really think that I have some hot tips on how to get rich, do you?

According to popular belief, the richest people in the world are professional athletes, ministers, Hollywood artistes and supermodels. So unless you know of a way of becoming one of these elite few, you are unlikely to strike it rich and make it big. So what chances do you and I, mere mortals, have of finding the proverbial pot of gold in our lifetime?

Sad to say, many of us will never have a chance to witness our bank account swell to a 7-digit figure. According to my calculation, the time taken for a graduate with an initial starting pay of $2000 per month to earn a million dollars at the rate of a $500 increment every 2 years is exactly 20 years. So it is possible! Yes, it is possible if and only if you save every single cent you earn in the above-mentioned scenario. That means you probably have to walk to work everyday, and feed on leftover food at hawker centres for your breakfast, lunch and dinner.

So does it mean that the paper chase we have been engaged in all these while is in fact a futile attempt at striking it rich? Possibly. Some of you may ask, "So why study at all?" Anyway, when you first started schooling, no one promised you that you would be a millionaire when you get your diploma or degree, right? So if you are having any regrets now, all I can say is that you only have yourself to blame for not clarifying things then!

But all is not lost yet. After all, you are in Lee Meng's Wonderland. There is in fact some way of striking it rich without having to fight over food scraps with mynahs and sparrows at hawker centre tables. However, few have succeeded. For every individual who manages to do it, there are a thousand others left disappointed and heartbroken. It is in fact also a "paper chase", albeit of a slightly different nature. If you have not figured it out yet, let me give you another hint. It is happening everywhere. People from all walks of life queueing up diligently and faithfully just to "chase" that piece of "paper" that will hopefully contain the next draw's winning numbers. In case you still have no idea what I am talking about, it is lottery.

Legalized lottery in Singapore comes in 4 different manifestations. They are 4-D, 4-D Sweep, Big Sweep and Toto. I would love to explain to you how each game is being played, but I hope you understand my predicament, as SingNet provides me with only 2MB of space for my personal pages.

Since you are in Lee Meng's Wonderland, I can't possibly leave you in the lurch, can I? For a detailed explanation of how each of these 4 different games of lottery is being played, simply follow this link to The Singapore Pools Homepage. Besides the rules and regulations of each game, there are also past records of all winning numbers. Happy surfing and good luck in your "paper chase". If the God of Fortune happens to smile on you, remember to give me a call and we can go down to Newton Circus and have some ice-cold beer at Matthew's.
