Trust

This is just an extremely weird thought I'd had the 2am night (now 0220) I was creating the reflections page... actually it's been a recurring curiosity. It was inspired partially due to my insecure personality, and partly due to a joke my ex-classmate Jiunwei pulled on me one day in 1998.

"Louis, I've just come back in time from the future. We must leave now! They're going to destroy us! Hurry!"

That is, of course, probably nothing like what he'd actually said to me. The crux of it is that, he was telling me important information based on the assumption that he had truly come back in time from the future, an idea I'd thought (and still do) of as ludicrous. Thus, I chose not to believe him. After awhile, he gave up trying to get me to believe him.

Now, where this fits in is... I was wondering if, at any point in time, if I tell someone who supposedly trusts me something which goes utterly against his (male pronoun used for convenience) sense of logic... will he believe me? If I tell a friend that I'd come back from the future (somehow stuck in the same body) to warn him of something, will I be believed? If I had a vision where a supreme being chose to reveal information to me, and I'd cited this as example of a future event, will I be believed?

Granted, for the vision example there's always the chance that it was just a dream and I was being overzealous, but the back-from-the-future scenario seems quite certain to me. So, will the people I trust and expect to be trusted by be able to believe such a wild tale, or merely assume it to be a joke (and possibly that I'm insane if I insist on it)?

Think about the person you trust the most. Will you believe him in such a situation?
