TO SET SERVER TIME

At server console, type set time=November 20, 1997 1:53 pm (eg). To synchonise time, at workstation type : SYSTIME

TO CONFIGURE A NEW NETWORK PRINTER (EG HP5M)

a) Physical Connection

F Connect network cable to printer.

F Power on the printer.

F Print a self-test page to see the LAN H/W Address.

 

b) Add new print queue and print server to Network

F Login as supervisor.

F Type pconsole, select "Print Queue Information" option.

F Press INSERT key to add new Print Queue

F Type in the new Print Queue name eg, HP5M.

F Go back to the main menu then select " Print Server Information" option.

F Press INSERT key to add new Print Queue.

F Type in the new server name, eg HP5M.

F Quit Pconsole.

 

c) Configure New Printer in JetAdmin

F Run Windows.

F Run f:\public\Jetadm16 utility at Program Manager (assume the JetAdmin already install in f:\public).

F Select Device, New options.

F Choose the address equivalent to the Printer HW address shown in Self-Test Page above.

F Press Configure.

F Enter the name of the printer, eg, "HP5M" , press next to continue.

F Select Bindery Queues, press change button.

F Choose the Print Queue created in (b), ie HP5M.

F Press service button to add Print Queue, you will see HP5M displayed on Serviced Bindery Queue.

F Press OK to accept.

F Press Next button to continue and accept the remaining prompt until reach Finish Configuration.

F Double click "HP5M" at the JetAdm main menu to configure the printer.

F Choose JetDirect button then Advance option, uncheck Banner to disable banner to be printed before the actual output.

F Select Frame Types, choose the correct frame type use in the network, eg Ethernet 802.2.

 

d) Configure Client to print to the network printer

F Install printer driver on the pc, ie, HP5M printer driver Print Manager icon.

F Select this printer and choose option – printer setup from the print manager menu.

F Press Setup button to configure the printer setting.

F Press Connect button, then select the LPT2 or 3 for network printer, LPT1 normally use for local printer.

F Press Network button, then press Netware button.

F Select LPT2 or 3 at Ports, select HP5M at Resources.

F Press Capture then permanent button.

F Press LPT settings button, uncheck form feed and banner, check notify.

 

SERVER DISK SPACE CHECK

At server console, type : load dspace

 

PRINTER QUEUE AUDIT LOG

At pconsole, print server, (select printer), audit trail. Check for file named, pserver.log. Otherwise, remove EVERYONE and setup different group name.

 TO MOUNT CDROM ON SERVER TO ENABLE WORKSTATION TO ACCESS

At server console :

  1. Type : load cdrom
  2. Type : cd device list => to see what is the id number

The following table will be displayed, no = id #, vol name = the cd files

if only the header displayed without details, it means the cdrom driver is not loaded when the server is started. So the server need to shutdown & reload the driver at the beginning.

  1. down the server
  2. exit to dos
  3. add line to load the cdrom driver
  4. i)cd \server.312

    add line to startnet.ncf to load aspicd.dsk

    load aspicd

  5. power off & restart server
  6. repeat 1), 2)

3. Type: cd mount id# => user will be able to access the server’s cdrom drive.

  1. Type: volume (to see available volume exist at the server)
  2. at client, type: map n volume name:\

  3. At server console, type cd dismount id#
