The 4 characters on your left sets the
topic for this page. However, I shall not try to explain
to you the history of Wushu, nor the different styles
that are seen today. Since this is My Hobbies page,I shall give my 3 cents worth of what I think about Wushu, and its current development. |

| I
can't really explain why I like Wushu. And I have paid a
price for my love in this sport. To begin, I have to juggle between Wushu and studies, and unfortunately I had to sacrifice the former, which explains why I'm rather weak in it. If that's not all, associating oneself with an art of Chinese origin did little for one's self image. Prople think you're "Cheena". Maybe others will mistake you for a communist. Its tough to carry on, amidst derogatory remarks like this. |

| Now Wushu has recieved its due
recognition. It is set to be an event in the Olympic Games, and more schools are offering it as an activity for students. Unfortunately, there are groups that are currently cashing in on this trend. Wushu classes are common at Community Centres. They claim to teach Shaolin related wushu. However, many of these classes do not seem to be teaching authentic Chinese Wushu, but rather a hybrid of Wushu, Taekwondo and other martial arts. Besides differences in style, many of these classes teach this "Wushu" for fighting purposes, which goes against the original Wushu aim, which is for Health purposes. Yet, many parents who send their
children for such lessons do not seem to |

| I see a great future ahead for Wushu.
It pains to know that it's good name may be destroyed by imposters claiming to teach Wushu. |
