The Chartered
Institute of Transport (CIT) is the professional body for those who engaged in
transport and logistics - including all sectors of
the industry; namely, air, sea, land, and logistics, for both
passengers and freight transportation. CIT was
formed in the United Kingdom in 1919 as the Institute
of Transport and granted a Royal Charter in
1926. The Singapore Group was formed in 1971. This Group was converted into a Section in
1986. CIT Singapore obtained its National Council status in 1991.

Objectives
 | To ensure an adequate supply of
qualified personnel through an internationally recognised
education and training system |
 | To keep qualified individuals up to date
throughout their professional working lives |
 | To play an active and
influential part in shaping transport policies for the future |

Aims
 | To promote the study of the
science and art of transport |
 | To promote the study of logistics, ie, the entire supply
chain theories and practices |
 | To provide an educational programme with examinations
leading to a professional grade within the CIT |
 | To conduct educational programmes
and training courses, with examinations or course certification, in order to
raise the level of professionalism in the transport and logistics industries |
 | To foster investigation and
research into the development and improvement of transport
and logistics by every practical means |
 | To initiate the regular meeting
and exchange of ideas of those
interested in transport and logistics through
conferences, discussion groups, lectures, seminars, visits
to specific transport and logistics establishments |
