In April 2000, he took up the offer to do his Master of Engineering (M.Eng) with the school of Mechanical & Production Engineering (MPE), at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Under the program, he is researching on the area of applying artificial intelligence to automate certain industrial processes. 

In July 1999, he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Second Upper Class Honours) from NTU, majoring in Mechanical & Production Engineering (Design Option). Immediately after that, he worked in BP Asia Pacific Regional Technology Center (part of BP AMOCO Group) as a technical support engineer for 6 months. During his course of employment, he had traveled to various places in the region for field visit, such as Indonesia and Malaysia.

In Feb 1999, he was invited to found a new society in NTU, known as Students' Initiative For Technopreneurship (SIFT). He was appointed as the Public Relations Officer and worked with another six pro tem members to pave the foundation of the club. Upon graduation, he formed a new committee known as the 'External Committee' to advise the new batch of management team on running the society. He has since stepped down as the chairman of the External Committee. 

In his final year of studies, he undertook a research on programming a group of artificial intelligent software agents. In the second half of 1998, he participated in the NTU International Student Exchange Program (INSEP) at University of Toronto, Canada. He took five subjects in the university and managed to score Excellent grade in the four of them. 

In 1997, he was ranked as one of the best students among the second year Mechanical & Production Engineering undergraduates in term of academic performance, after scoring a Distinction and seven Excellent grades in the course. With his deep interest in business, he also accomplished four business subjects outside of his engineering course.

In late 1996, he undertook a 6-week project in the National Undergraduate Research Programme (NURP), together with his project partner, Tey Kar Shiang. The work involved the of use JAVA Language to program a group of software robots that roamed the Internet in search of the best deal in town. In the wake of the excellent research content, the project has been published in the International Journal of Purchasing & Materials Management (Winter 1998).
