What is Children's Liturgy of the Word?

Liturgy of the Word for Children is designed to include children in the liturgy and create a sense of belonging. Children who participate leave the church after the opening prayer and go to the Adoration Room in a procession which is lead by a child carrying the Lectionary. In the Adoration Room, we do all of the things that are done in the main assembly; that is, we have the Rite of Mercy, we read scripture, sing, have a homily, have an activity relevant to the message of that day, and offer prayers of the faithful. All of the readings, homilies, and prayers are geared toward the younger members of The Holy Family Church so that they better understand and apreciate the value of God's word. This is a great opportunity for them to hear and talk about God's word at their own level. We don't just preach to them; instead we ask them questions about the readings and try to help them apply their understanding of the readings to their own lives.
