Dear Visitor,

a beautiful ABALONE shell in all its glorious colours awaits your gaze!

You are welcome to email it, for non-commercial use only, to your family and friends. Palomino Delectables reserves the copyright for all images on its website and commercial use of our images infringes our copyright.

The abalone is a living thing and differ from one another just as people do. Every abalone shell is unique. Expect the shell you receive to be similar but not identical to the one pictured here.

The inside of the abalone shell is mother-of-pearl -- the material which makes pearls. Only one out of about 50,000 abalone yields a pearl. Abalone pearls are rarer than oyster pearls. The mother-of-pearl is iridescent; the colours are everchanging depending on the viewing angle, and the nature of the light - whether it's natural or artificial light, the colour, direction and intensity of the light.

On our shells the iridescence is predominantly bluish-green and pink, streaked with blue and gold.

A photograph can show only one instance of the everchanging colours under one viewing and lighting condition.

Iridescence can be appreciated only by holding the object in one's own hand and viewing it from different angles and under different lighting conditions.

From your friendly Palomino!
