Smart Card Security Model Criteria

Security Model Criteria
A security system needs to follow a model to ensure consistency. Such model has a few criteria including:
Storage
If the data is portable or accessed offline, it can be stored on the card. There are three options for keeping different levels of confidentiality. Data can be stored clear on a memory card or a computer file. It can also be stored in a protected memory card or on a computer with access control rights controlled by a password or card system. Else, the data can be encrypted and stored in a secure memory card.
Transmission
When data is being transmitted from one system to another system, the information transmitted must be not altered. The integrity of the message can be checked by using cyclic redundancy checks(CRC), transaction counter or message authentication code (MAC)
Use
When the data is used in a smart card system, it is important to check the authenticity of the card and of the terminals, which are in use. Thus, user identification, authentication of card and authentication of terminal are important when the smart card system is in use
