Hi,
We are a group of NUS students doing a Human Resource module this semester. Below is a survey to find out more about the working expectations of the present workforce. We sincerely hope that you can help us complete this survey with full honesty.
Thank you.
Please tick the relevant box indicating the answer that is most appropriate to you.
1) Everyday when you report for work, you push for the door and head for your respective departments. One day at the general meeting, your Human Resource Department has decided to put up a signage at the entrance. Which of the following signage would you like to see everyday when you head for the entrance?
“Staff Entrance”
“VIP Entrance”
An electronic board that has a different greeting ( a change at least once a week ) every morning.
Only the door – What’s the fuss???
2) Imagine yourself working in a restaurant. What would you expect your Manager/Supervisor to do when the crowd in the restaurant is too big to cope?
“Pass the buck” by telling the staff members what to do since helping out is not what a Manager/Supervisor should do.
Hold the crowd at the entrance, tell them that the staff needs a little time to provide the guests a comfortable place to eat – I would not want the guests to think that my manager does not have a command of respect from us.
Roll up his sleeves and get involved with service – actions speak louder than words!
Hide in his office and continue with his paper work.
3) In the service industry, majority of the companies will require their members/staff to put on nametags. Which of the following style of nametags would you choose to put on?
Standardized nametags with the company’s logo – I’m representing the company to liance with the guests
Nametags with only the member’s name on it – Isn’t that what the customer wants to find out at the end of the conversation??
Self-designed name tags for every department ( company logo included ) – New York Dessert Café (NYDC) does this in Singapore. Lots of creativity and unity displayed.
None of the above – we hate wearing nametags.
4) In modern companies (especially service industries, eg Hotel line), job swopping or attachments to other departments are common. Which of the following methods would you like to hear or receive from your bosses when he/she asks you to move on to other departments?
“It’s the company rule that everyone goes to other co-departments for 10 weeks. It’s your turn now.”
“It’s your chance to learn from other departments. Report to me every once a week to let me know what additional skills have you picked up.”
“Through this attachment programme, you’ll be much more aware of how the other departments function. Do make full use of your time spent there, you’ll be able to pick up many other skills that you may not know from your own department.”
A letter that is addressed to you and CC to the corresponding department that you are due for attachment and that you need to report there first thing in the morning.
5) You are entitled to 14 days of paid leave ( aka Paid-time off, PTO ) every year. Which of the following methods would you prefer to have your leave cleared?
Plan your leave ahead and let your superior or Human Resource personnel know that you want to take PTO on these dates.
Accumulation of PTO uncleared for not more than 2 years.
Buying back of the PTO by the company up to a maximum of 4 days.
Force to clear leave by your manager/ Human Resource.
