AWESOME ATHERS BLASTS UNBEATEN TON

Home page Michael Atherton ended six months without a century by hitting a fine, unbeaten 154 as England reached 298-3 against the Australian XI in Hobart.

Atherton, skipper for this match in the absence of Alec Stewart and Nasser Hussain, crashed 18 boundaries in an unbeaten 154 as the touring side reached 298 for three by the close.

At the close of play, Atherton said: "Since the early games in Adelaide and Cairns I've been feeling in pretty good shape. Ever since I had the injections before the first Test I've been feeling fine."
