Description (Nature Discovery Tour)

At 9:30am, a mini van picked us from the hotel and headed for our first destination which gave us a spectacular top view of the tea plantation . We could see row after row of tea plant covering the mountain side like a carpet. Our tour guide explained that a young British traveller named John Archibald Russells, started the first tea plantation in 1929 and known as BOH estate.

We made our way up the narrow roads to Mount Brinchang which is 6,666 feet above sea level. A viewing tower standing majestically awaits any visitor to give them the best bird's eye view of the highlands. There were three levels to the tower. We managed to only climb to the second level as it was really high and the stairs were steep. Not for the faint hearted. The air is really cool and refreshing.

We trekked into the Mossy forest. It was an exciting trek as we had to tackle uneven terrain and hanging on to tree branches/trunks to maintain our balance. The morning dew made the ground muddy and slippery. The most fascinating plant that caught our attention is the Pitcher plant. It gets its nutrients when insects gets trapped and dies within the walls of the plant due to its slippery surface. The nutrients is then transported to other parts of the plant like the leaves.

We proceed to the 'BOH' tea factory to witness the process of creating tea. The interesting machinery was an eye opener and the place was filled with the scent of original tea. The tea shop offered many flavours of tea and tea bags. We had our snacks and refreshments provided by the tour.

Last stop was to the aboriginal village . Our tour guide explained that the annual 'dance festival' takes place to allow potential couples to declare their love for each other and cohabit together. The parents of both side will let them reside together to find out if they were meant for each other. Over the years the village has modernised with better designed houses and electricity. The children have proper education and wear modern cloths. Young couples do leave the village for the city in hope to earn more for a better living.

After lunch (not included in tour package), the mini van brought us back to the hotel. It was 2:30pm.
