Description (Day 5)

After more than 2 hours bus ride from our hotel, we arrived at Daepo harbour. Both sides of the road lined many stalls and shops selling live fresh seafood and dried seafood products. Some of the shops allow your live seafood to be cooked for your consumption at reasonable prices. Beside the stalls and shops stood many fish tanks displaying crabs, cuttlefish, fish, sea cucumber, eels etc. At the end of the road lined many fishing boats where the fisherman will travel in to brave the harsh seas to earn their living. These boats reminded me of the movie “The Perfect Storm”

After lunch we proceed to Mt Sorak National Park. According to our tour guide, two generals, Kwon & Kum, inorder to avoid war built a castle 800 metres above sea level. This castle was named Kwon Kum Castle after the two generals. We took the cable car up, it was really bigger than the ones we have in Singapore. The view was breathtaking as we could see the East Sea and Sokcho city to the west. Once we reach the top, we walked up many flight of stairs to reach the summit. At the summit, we saw a huge rock worthy to be climbed by seasoned rock climbers. As it was a very steep climb, our tour guide advised against us not to scale. However, we saw many Koreans scaling the rock and I thought what risk takers they are without using a safety rope. After we reached ground level, we took a photo with the gigantic Buddha seated as the backdrop.

Earlier on, our group had to decide whether to watch the Multi-Cultural show or visit Aquaworld which provides hot spa where both events were outside the itinerary. So we decided and made our way back to Kangon Land to catch the multi-cultural show starting at 7pm. The show was packed to capacity with many young children watching. The show consists of a magic show, Chinese acrobatics balancing and juggling, Russian dance item, Indian dance item. It was a spectacular show; however we were not allowed to take any photo shots which could distract the performers.
