The use of triangles in buildings

Look at any man-made structures around you and you will find groups of triangles. The triangles of wood in the roof transform large forces acting on each triangle's topmost vertex into smaller forces, which act along the sides of the triangle that meet at the vertex. The roof load can then be equally supported by the walls.
