The Aquarium Stand
The power supply
The Cleaning & checking for water leaks
Clean the aquarium thoroughly with hot water. Add some drops of
sera pH-minus
onto a firm cloth or sponge to wipe the glass. Attention: Many sponges are not
suitable for aquarium use because they already contain cleaning agents or detergents.
After the aquarium is cleaned, fill it with water and observe for leaks. If
leaks do not occur after 2 to 3 hours, the aquarium is leak-proof.
If you do not wish to place the aquarium on a cabinet, you will need a suitable
stand. It must be extremely stable and evenly horizontal. A spirit level is invaluable.
A 5 mm. Styrofoam panel must be placed below the aquarium to offset any distortion of
the construction and to avoid tension causing cracks in the glass !
You will need multiple outlets of electrical supply near to your aquarium. Filter,
the heater, lighting, etc, are required for the installation of the aquarium. If
possible, the power supply should be above the aquarium to avoid water spills into
the outlets during water change or refilling.
Aquarium sold nowadays come with safety standards. However, you should check
the panes and the glue seams for manufacturing defects. There should not be gaps
between the silicon and the glass. You can best carry out this check while cleaning.
Before you set up the newly purchased aquarium, clean it thoroughly to remove
residues from its production.
You will need one or two buckets, strictly for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
These buckets should never have contained or rinsed with cleaning agents, detergents
or other chemicals.
Chemical glass cleaners should not be used on the glass panes, including the
lid and on the outside. By mistake, minute cleaning detergents can easily cause
contamination in the aquarium.
