Unheralded Champions
Read : Philippians 4 : 1 - 9
Pat Fillmore has been a pioneer missionary in Irian Jaya for 40 years. She taught people to read and brought them medications and medical techniques. She maintained airstrips, built septic systems and repaired generators and appliances. In addition, she established and managed a quality Bible school, and translated parts of the Bible and many study courses into the language of the people to whom she ministered.
I am familiar with the stories of many well-known Christian men and women. I have seen their pictures and read their books. But I had never heard of Pat until I read the story about her in TEAM's Horizons magazine.
I am sure there are thousands of other believers who fill an important niche in the work of the Lord, even though they may go their entire lives without being noticed by the people of their generation. But like those unnamed believers Paul called " the rest of my fellow workers, " their " names are in the Book of Life " ( Phil. 4 : 3 ) , and the Lord will reward their service ( Col. 3 : 23 - 24 ) .
You may be caring for a person with disability, or helping to distrubute food in a rescue mission, or teaching a small class of children without anybody noticing. You are a an unheralded champion---except in the sight of God ! --- Herbert Vander Lugt
